Book Bingo challenge to lure adult readers

Reading challenges are not just for young readers – Bristol Libraries  are running Book Bingo for adults.

The initiative invites participants to explore a wide range of books, discover new genres, and celebrate the joy of reading – all with the added incentive of a £100 book token prize draw.

• Taking part in Book Bingo is simple and flexible:

• Sign up online or in any Bristol library

• Read books that match each category on the bingo card

• Mark progress by crossing off categories at home or get your card stamped at a library

Submit your completed card by Thursday 31 December 2026. All completed entries will be entered into a prize draw for the £100 book token.

The Book Bingo challenge forms part of wider efforts to encourage reading for pleasure and is aligned with the National Year of Reading 2026, a UK-wide campaign promoting the benefits of reading for wellbeing, creativity, and connection.

Stephen Williams, chair of the public health and communities committee said: “I’m thrilled to be supporting this fantastic new initiative for adult readers here in Bristol. As a keen reader myself, I can attest to the sheer enjoyment that books can bring, offering entertainment, inspiration and new perspectives. This is why it is so important that we encourage everyone, no matter their age to pick up a good book, so do make sure to get involved.”

Participants are encouraged to read in any format that suits them, including physical books, eBooks, and audiobooks. A variety of categories is designed to inspire readers to broaden their choices and discover new favourites.
