THE number of children seeking reception class places in Bristol’s primary schools has fallen again.
The city council received 4,424 applications from families for September 2026, compared with 4,656 a year earlier.
Demand is down by more than 1,000 from ten years ago, meaning many schools have surplus places. Some are considering reducing the number of pupils they admit each year.
This year, 99 per cent of families have been offered one of their top three preferences and 91 per cent have been offered their first preference.
Councillor Christine Townsend, Chair of the Children and Young People Policy Committee, said: “I’m pleased that most families have been offered one of their preferred schools.”
Parents had to accept or decline the offers by April 30.
