Currying favour

We all love a good curry, and those of us living in or near North Bristol, are spoilt for choice for award-winning fare, following a clutch of recent awards for our local curry houses.

At a ceremony last month at the Crowne Plaza in Reading, Oceanic Awards announced the winners of the 1st Southern Curry Awards 2026.

Adding further certificates to their collection, Indian Kitchen, Salkaara, Naan & Co, and Urban Tandoor all received a multitude of awards in recognition of their outstanding food and service, with Salkaara being granted the title of Overall Winner in the Best Curry Experience of the Year category.

In further success for the industry, Cotham Hill-based Achari Indian Kitchen has been named in the top 100 Asian Restaurants for 2026 at an official event at the House of Lords. The ceremony, part of the Asian Curry Awards, was held in the members’ dining room at the Palace of Westminster, and brought together industry leaders, restaurateurs, chefs and politicians.

Highlighting success at awards such as these also serves to support a sector already at a crossroads. Finding skilled chefs under new immigration policies and the ongoing challenges faced by many restaurant owners make such support all the more needed.

So, if you’re looking for a curry that has been officially recognised as one of the best in the business, you couldn’t do better than visit one of our local eateries and see what they have to offer.
